PIERRE, SD – Simple, everyday choices we make can help us live happier and healthier lives. That’s why the South Dakota Beef Industry Council is launching a fun incentive program for the whole family designed to encourage everyone in their efforts to lead a healthy lifestyle with beef.
The Fit Friday Challenge is part of the Move into May Campaign leading up to the celebration of May Beef Month. Each Friday from Fri., March 31 – Fri., May 26, share a photo to the SDBIC Facebook page showing how you’re working toward a healthy lifestyle. Photos can be anything from a picture of your healthy beef recipe, to a selfie while out walking the dog or playing with the kids in the park.
“We want people to be creative and have some fun with it,” said Suzy Geppert, executive director SDBIC. “Beef has 10 essential nutrients your body needs to stay healthy and active. We want you to show us how you incorporate beef into your healthy lifestyle, and we’ll award some prizes to many who do!”
Each person who makes a Fit Friday photo post on the SDBIC Facebook is entered into a weekly drawing the following Monday for a t-shirt and $25 in beef certificates. The SDBIC will award $200 in beef bucks to kick off May Beef Month, and $250 in beef bucks will highlight a grilling package we’ll give away just in time for Memorial Day.
Studies show the protein in beef helps build, preserve and repair muscle. Beef also supports weight management and a healthy immune system. Along with good nutrition, we need physical activity. It helps us reduce the stress of everyday life, relieves tension, anxiety, and depression over time. Exercise and eating healthy also prolongs optimal health, helps to boost our strength, stamina, and the ability to function well. Federal guidelines recommend adults get 150 minutes of exercise each week. That’s where the Fit Friday Challenge comes in. Conceived by rancher and blogger, Terryn Drieling, this recipe is as good as is sounds. Green herbs provide more flavor to this roast that is sure to satisfy any hungry family.
