Directors Begin Long-Range Planning, Discuss 2017 Programming

PIERRE, SD - The South Dakota Beef Industry Council (SDBIC) board of directors held the organization’s quarterly public meeting Mon., Nov 21 at the Ramkota Hotel River Centre in Pierre, SD. In addition to the regular business meeting, directors participated in long-range strategic planning for FY 2018-2020.

“That long-range plan will set the goals and priorities for the next three fiscal years.” said Suzy Geppert, executive director, SDBIC. “Then we can begin to more fully develop programs and plans that support and further advance the SDBIC mission to increase beef demand and generate positive attitudes about beef with improving opportunities for beef producers.”

Several industry leaders were invited and attended the strategic planning and provided input, including Dr. William Gibbons, Interim Associate Director, South Dakota Ag Experiment Station, South Dakota State University; Dani Hanson, policy advisor, South Dakota Department of Agriculture; and Dustin Oedekovin, DVM, state veterinarian.  The long-range plan will be brought to the next quarterly meeting for approval.

SDBIC staff members also provided updates on several initiatives and programs including recent successful National Healthy Eating Day events in partnership with the American Heart Association, the recent Beef Crawl in Sioux Falls, various social media promotions and the financial report. Directors also accepted the annual independent audit report from Amanda Schwartz, CPA at Stulken, Peterson, Lingle, Walti and Jones, LLP. Schwartz reported the firm’s opinion on the audit was unmodified, that the financial statements were not materially misstated, and found the SDBIC in compliance with the Act, the Order, and the Investment Policy.

The next quarterly meeting is tentatively scheduled for Mon., Feb. 21, 2017
