PIERRE, SD – The South Dakota Beef Industry Council (SDBIC) and South Dakota Cattle Women (SDCW) today announced the SDBIC as the premiere sponsor of the Northern Hills Beef Bowl. This major high school football event Aug. 27, 2016 in Spearfish, South Dakota features a football double-header: Sturgis vs. St. Thomas More at 4 p.m. and Spearfish vs. Belle Fourche at 7 p.m.
“The South Dakota Beef Industry Council is proud to sponsor this event.” said Suzanne Geppert, Executive Director, SDBIC. “Lean beef is the perfect protein to help these athletes power through their training and games. Studies show the nutrients found in lean beef; zinc, iron, protein and vitamin B-twelve fuel the body, and lean beef also provides the amino acids necessary for building and replenishing muscles.”
“That makes beef a healthy, go-to protein of choice,” said Anna Marrs, a Whitewood Valley member of the SDCW. “The SDCW will have a display at the event, engage football fans with beef education and provide some free t-shirts, recipes and cookbooks during the games.”
Lynn’s Dakotamart and High Country Coca-Cola Bottling Company will also team up to provide a reasonably-priced tailgate meal which includes a hamburger, chips and drink. The meal is a fundraiser for all four schools.
“We live in a state where beef cattle outnumber people nearly 5 to 1,” said Julie Holmquist, President SDCW. “That translates into roughly 3.7 million cattle and calves, plus 112, 000 dairy cows. Beef is a big part of what drives the agriculture industry in our state. We look forward to this opportunity to showcase that in this venue.”
The SDCW held a design contest to determine the event logo. Breezy Millar, Millar Angus Ranch, located east of Sturgis submitted the winning entry. Media may download the event logo below for use in connection with any stories featuring the event.
