Food Network star and celebrity chef, Justin Warner will be in Pierre on Monday, December 9, 2019 where he will interact with South Dakota beef producers. Warner, an avid visitor to Japan will engage with attendees and provide a Japanese food demonstration. Japan continues to be the number one customer for U.S. beef, purchasing $1.5 billion worth of U.S. beef from January through September of this year.
“Japan has been a strong market for US grain finished beef. This market adds significant value to cuts like the short plate, which they normally consume in thin slices,” states Kati Knock of Willow Lake, SD and United States Meat Export Federation (USMEF) Board Member. “Also, small portion sized, high end steak cuts make up a significant component of the export value to Japan. For several decades the USMEF has had a prominent presence in Japan helping to promote US Beef products.”
The event, hosted by Mortenson Ranch of Hayes, SD and sponsored by First Dakota National Bank, Pierre, SD, will begin upon the conclusion of the South Dakota Beef Industry Council’s quarterly board meeting at the Drifters Conference Center in Ft. Pierre, SD. Attendees are welcome to attend the SDBIC board meeting that begins at 12:30 p.m. or arrive at approximately 5:00 p.m. for the Warner event. Warner will engage with producers and share insight into Japanese cuisine, beef demand and discuss current international beef consumer trends.
“Meeting new people and forming new connections to the food I love is why I’m in this business, so I’m super pumped to hang out with SD beef producers,” states Celebrity Chef Justin Warner. “I look forward to exchanging stories and ideas about the people, land, and beef we love.”
