PIERRE, SD - Beef continued to play a big role in the athletic world as the SouthDakota Beef Industry Council (SDBIC) team attended the South Dakota Football Coaches Association (SDFBCA)/Sanford-Riggs Coaches Clinic held in Brookings, SD on Saturday, March 23, 2019 and the South DakotaInterscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (SDIAAA) Conference held in Pierre on March 28, 2019. The SDBIC brought Michael Roussell, PhD and sports nutrition expert, to the SDFBCA conference where he presented on effective nutrition strategies for high school football players. Roussell discussed the importance of high-quality protein like beef and its role as "anchor" to the plate. Dr. Mike oversees the optimization of the health, nutrition, and performance for a range of clientele from professional athletes, to celebrities, to Fortune 500 executives.
When asked about protein's role in performance, Roussell states, "What we know from nutrition science is that it's not just about getting enough protein but its how frequently you get it in throughout the day that plays a big impact."
The SDBIC also used the conference setting to highlight the Beef. It's What's For Dinner Strength Field Manual to the coaches at the clinic. The manual, written by Roussell, includes a multitude of nutrition facts, beef facts and performance tips. This manual will be included as part of a new coaches' resource option found within the Build Your Base with Beef program but can also be accessed at www.beefitswhatsfordinner.com.
Roussell applauded the SDBIC and Sanford Sports Science Institute on the work they do in the Build Your Base with Beef Sports Nutrition and Training program, "It engages the parents and the communities to provide these beef centered meals either before or after sporting events to these football players. It reinforces the idea of a community and getting all kinds of people involved".
The SDBIC also gave a short presentation at each event on the Build Your Base with Beef program and the new application process that will be in place for the upcoming season.
