PIERRE, SD - The South Dakota Beef Industry Council's (SDBIC) quarterly board of directors meeting took place in Pierre, SD on Monday April 1, 2019 at Red Rossa Italian Grille and Conference Center. Committee meetings began at 8 A.M. followed by the quarterly board meeting at 11 A.M.
Staff of the SDBIC gave an update on the different events, campaigns, and programs being implemented with dollars received through the beef checkoff. One of these included the "Build Your Base with Beef" program's year one update report. The report included feedback from pre- and post-surveys as well as a summary of final reports completed by coaches. Discussion was held on program direction in the upcoming season; including the new application process. Demand for the program continues to rise as schools learn about the many benefits the program has to offer to young athletes and their families. Kahl Sesker from USDA Agricultural Marketing Service gave an update on checkoff oversight being provided by USDA, the review process, and the team he works with in the Livestock and Poultry Program.
The research committee reported on their morning meeting where they discussed the submitted research pre-proposals. Five of these pre-proposals will be invited to submit full research proposals to the SDBIC.
The promotion committee reported on several authorization requests that were submitted to the SDBIC including the Sanford International Senior PGA tournament and the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
The SDBIC board of directors set the next quarterly meeting date for June 11, 2019. These meetings continue to be a valuable opportunity for beef producers to network with their peers and learn more about how their checkoff dollars are being utilized in building beef demand. All beef producers are invited to attend.
