PIERRE, SD -Directors and staff of the South Dakota Beef Industry Council (SDBIC) met at Drifter's Conference Center in Ft. Pierre, SD on Wednesday and Thursday, November 14-15, 2018 for various committee meetings, as well as the organization's full board of directors' quarterly meeting. Promotion Committee members reviewed three proposals at the November meeting; Jackrabbit Sport's Properties, Coyotes Sport's Properties, and Heartland Consumer Reports. The committee also reviewed five final reports including the Northeast Beef Promotion Initiative, New York Beef Council, SD Cattlewomen, and the SD Cattlemen's Auxiliary. Checkoff funds had been directed to each for promotion and educational opportunities throughout the 2018 fiscal year.New SDBIC board members were welcomed and 2019 SDBIC promotion, education, outreach plans were shared through a board PowerPoint presentation. The presentation also included recent events and activities. Federation of State Beef Council directors and the U.S. Meat Export Federation directors reported on recent meetings. The Federation of State Beef Councils represents the 43 Qualified State Beef Councils. Collectively, the QSBCs include more than 700 state board members and these board members represent a wide range of industry organizations and every segment of the beef industry. The Federation is a division of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA), which is a contractor to the Beef Checkoff Program. The program is administered by the Cattlemen’s Beef Board, with oversight provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
